Annette has had a mixed and varied career: she began working as a trainee Travel Consultant at Global Travel, Montego Bay during high school and has never looked back. After graduating she became an Entertainment Coordinator at The Seawind Beach Resort, but her crave for education led her to pursue a teaching qualification in Home Economics specializing in: Food and Nutrition, Fashion, and Design. Since then Annette has continued to combine her love for industry and education and worked for a number of four and five star hotels on Jamaica’s north coast; progressing to Food and Beverage Manager at the Ambiance Hotel, Runaway Bay. By 1994, Annette returned to England to pursue a degree in Design, Media and Management at UCE in Birmingham, followed by a Post grad in Innovation Studies at The University of Huddersfield. During this time she worked part time for ATMays Travel a subsidiary of Carlson Wagonlit. After graduating, Annette became Assistant Manager at Going Places part of The MyTravel Group PLC, Travel Agency Manager, at the Tourist Information Centre in Leicester and Field Studies Coordinator for Queens University (Canada) at Herstmonceux Castle, East Sussex. In 2001, Annette migrated to The Netherlands and has continued to mix her love for education and industry. She completed a MA in Education in 2004 and is currently working on an EdD in Educational Leadership at the University of Nottingham. Her research interests are narrative based: autoethnography and ethnography, with particular reference to the experience of migrants in education. She also teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Hotel School The Hague, Babel (University of Utrecht) and is an Associate Academic for the University of Derby.
